Flippin’ Da Script: Hip-Hop’s Impact on the Development of Young People

This interactive workshop will empower young people with an understanding of how applying the founding principles of hip-hop culture (love, truth, unity, respect, knowledge, and wisdom) can enhance Positive Youth Development, promoting academic achievement, self-esteem, citizenship, and career development.

Attendees will participate in several interactive exercises that highlight how aspects of hip-hop culture can promote youth involvement and the development of youth leadership. They will receive a "Consciousness List" to enhance their sensitivity to the negative elements sometimes associated with hip-hop culture and brainstorm strategies for strengthening its positive influences.
