Harry Wilson, Associate Commissioner of the Family and Youth Services Bureau in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, proudly announced today that Mrs. Laura Bush would serve as the Honorary Chair of the 2005 National Youth Summit, "Youth in Action - Making a Difference." Wilson elaborated, "We are delighted to have Mrs. Bush's support for the Summit. The First Lady's own initiative, Helping America's Youth, coupled with Mrs. Bush's chairing our Summit, are powerful examples of the Administration's strong commitment to America's youth. We have some of the most inspiring young people in our nation coming to Washington to share with, learn from, challenge and guide one another. Join us as we explore youth and public policy, youth and the economy, youth and community service, and youth and creativity.

The NYS provides youth and adults the opportunity to learn how young people from urban, suburban and rural America are making a positive impact in their communities. Each Summit includes skill-building sessions, networking, and time to share ideas. Whether it's interactive workshops, inspiring youth speakers, an innovative art project, discussions with government officials, networking during the "business-card" swap, enjoying young musicians and entertainers, learning about other youth projects and of course, meeting new people...the National Youth Summit has it all!

Engaging and Energizing Speakers: The National Youth Summit will feature some of the best keynote speakers anywhere. Big names you'll recognize - like Alma Powell, Chair of American's Promise: The Alliance for Youth - and others you'll never forget.

The National Youth Summit (NYS) brings together youth and adults from across the country to celebrate the strengths and accomplishments of America’s young people. Starting with the first Summit in 2002, the event has been hosted by the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). FYSB partners with other federal agencies and welcomes the participation of national youth organizations at each Summit. In addition, FYSB is joined by a dynamic group of young people who serve on the National Youth Summit's Youth Council. Youth Council members come from all across America and play a major role in planning, developing content, and implementing the Summit.
